The "Block" Defense

There are many great ways to use all of your pieces in a solid defense of offense. However, today the writers at Chess Black Knights have come up with a unique strategy for defense on the battlefield. We have named this strategy the "Block" Defense, as the formation of pieces resembles the shape of a block when completed.

Before I get into what to do, let's talk about the advantages and disadvantages that are related to this strategy. There are many benefits this strategy can provide you. For example, it creates a quite solid defense that pushes less valuable pieces towards the front in defense. Also, most spaces in front of this formation are under attack by your pieces, limiting the amount of moves the opposition can make.Your more powerful pieces are reserved towards the back, but have positions that allow them to move fluidly in and out of the formation.

There are also a few disadvantages this strategy can provide that you should consider. The first is that this formation can limit the movement of the inner-most pieces, including your bishops, king and queen. It also makes your knights rather exposed on the battlefield, so if you have a preexisting plan that includes knights as a vital asset, we wouldn't recommend this strategy for you. This formation requires quite a few moves to complete, so please consider this in your strategy during and following the formation process.

Now that all of that is done with, let's see the moves you must make:

(1). d2 to d3

(2). e2 to e3

(3). c1 to d2

(4). f1 to e2

(5). b1 to c3

(6). g1 to f3

(7). a1 to c1

(8). h1 to f1

And that's it! It does take a while to carry out, but if you have patience and a good plan after the formation of the defense, this strategy can be a reliable asset.
